General and Complex Litigation

Legal disputes involving minerals and other resources is another principal focus of the firm. RiviereAbel has defended major producers in Louisiana against claims of land contamination and also handled complex royalty-payment and mineral-rights issues. On the maritime side, he has represented numerous vessel owners and marine operators in Jones Act claims, as well as claims under the Longshoremen and Harbor Workers Compensation Act. He has also advocated on behalf of manufacturers in products liability, personal injury and breach of contract cases.

With an emphasis in agricultural cooperative law, Mr. Riviere has vast practice experience in representing Louisiana sugar producers, mills and cane farmers and other agricultural industries. Among the many cases he has handled are commercial transaction issues, including mergers and patronage agreements.
